Introducing our offer

We are working on the accreditation of a Fine Art MA provision by our partners Ecole Supérieure d'Art et de Design Le Havre-Rouen (ESADHaR). We will also be working with as Ecole Européenne Supérieure d’Art de Bretagne (EESAB), specifically in the context of the arts research boat initiative B.O.A.T. ®; with the University of Westminster's School of Media, Arts and Design in terms of the creative industries and digital economy:  the Akademie voor Kunst en Vormgeving St.Joost, Avans Hogeschool in terms of design and innovation  and others
We will be offering three different types of programmes; unaccredited short courses, accredited courses and creative services. Our approach to learning is socially and environmentally grounded, project-based, collaborative and learner-centred between and across liberal art disciplines. We operate within expanded field art practice context, and seek to integrate issues relevant to Margate in all our programmes, such as coast and beaches, neighbourhoods and housing, health and care; tourism and the visitor economy, youth and unemployment, the digital and creative economy, nationalities, languages and ethically diverse communities, food production, heritage, architecture and culture,  schools and education, demographics. We believe that part-taking in learning is most often a privilege, yet in our programmes, we seek to build bridges that allow that privilege to be extended to those communities that have lesser access to rich learning environments. We, therefore, believe in the deep democratic nature of learning itself. Our motto is, therefore, Officinae Humanitatis - Fabricando Fabricamur, that is Studios of humanity - we become humans as we engage humanly in the world we occupy ( Johannes Comenius).

Short Courses

Short courses include evening courses, 1 day courses, weekend courses, 5 day courses as well as Easter, Summer and Winter schools (2 - 4 weeks).

Accredited Courses

We are looking to develop a number of accredited courses. Initially, the Fine Art MA course will form part of Ecole Supérieure d'Art et de Design Le Havre - Rouen (ESADHaR) Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique (year 4 and 5) with a combination of taught provision in Margate as well as an opportunity to attend the campuses and facilities of ESADHaR. We are also looking to offer stand-alone accredited modules at post-graduate level.

Creative Services and Production

Much of the learning taking place in The Margate School (TMS) is embedded in the arts, community and ecology and it is therefore important to take full advantage to develop unique or interesting and locally-relevant yet internationally recognisable exhibitions, interventions, screenings, talks and festivals. Public and philanthropic funding will allow us to undertake community outreach work.
