The Margate Bookie is back for its tenth glorious festival. And The Margate School is the special venue for a packed week of Bookish delights!

On Monday 30th September 2024, neurodiverse poetry group MixMatched presents Noughties Nostalgia & Atypical Love Stories, starring Elvin James Mensah.

Tuesday is the not-to-be-missed Local Writers Showcase. Discover the booming literary scene on Planet Thanet as 12 local writers give readings with themes spanning psychology, goths, drugs, and the seaside.

On Wednesday, walker and writer Rod Edmonds tells us about Borderland, his latest book about the East Kent coastline from Thanet to Folkestone.

Rod’s followed by local historian and comedian Will MacLachlan who will talk about Margate - A hidden history of authors, artists and lovers.

On Thursday Maggie Harris, Mark Holihan and Filipe Gomes explore The Nature of Belonging.

And Margate Week finishes with a Bookbinding workshop led by Hope Fitzgerald and a tea and books in a special edition of Bee’s Bookshare.

The Margate Bookie is a registered charity founded by Andreas Loizou. From a single afternoon in a disused warehouse, the friendly bookfest by the sea has grown to a week of events and 5,000 visitors a year. At the heart of the Bookie is a love of how books bring people together to learn about new worlds, fire imaginations and turn strangers into friends.
