Visual Communication Design students invite you to their Graduation Show at The Margate School

YOU ME US is the Graduation Show from this year’s Visual Communication students at The Margate School. Having experimented with a range of new mediums and techniques over the past year the show focuses on IDENTITY - with reference to pop culture, consumerism, faith and a sense of place.

I’ve really enjoyed getting back to basics and playing with texture and I love the tactileness of it all! I’ve been putting paint to canvas and experimenting with different colour palettes, finding gorgeous old retro magazines and making collages and doing screen prints too.

My work explores my background as an Architect and love for the wide-open landscapes of Thanet and Kent. My approach combines painting, duplicating, printing and reproducing images whilst letting incidental distortion, patternation and abstraction inform the outcome.

My work primarily involves photography, incorporating elements of collage and graphics to explore themes of identity. I draw on contrasting experiences and narratives to inspire fresh and ideas in my work.

My work is about mark- making, telling a story and exploring the concept of place.
Oliva Barnett @oliviasbarnett
My work explores the cultural interplay between 'Otherness' and 'Britishness' centering my lived experience as an Irish Jewess raised in England. I use image, words, performance and ritual to share the stories I hold deeply within.
YOU ME US runs at The Margate School from 27 - 31 October, 10.00 - 16:00, with an opening at 17:00 on Saturday 26 October. Please join the students and the wider community to celebrate the opening of the show and the launch of Margate Festival of Design, from 17.00 - 19.30 on Saturday 26 October. YOU ME US forms part of this year’s Margate Festival of Design.
